What is the KfW?

The KfW (Kreditanstalt für Wiederaufbau) is a national public-law development bank which pursues a statutory state mandate and is therefore not to be understood as a credit institution within the meaning of the German Banking Act. KfW offers an extensive promotional programme in the real estate sector, which includes the acquisition or construction of owner-occupied homes and the energy-related renovation and modernisation of buildings and living space. The promotional loan Energy-Efficient Construction defines the KfW Efficient House as an energy standard with levels 40, 55, 70, 85, 100, 115. The lower the level, the more energy-efficient the property. The purchase or construction of a KfW Efficiency House is supported by a low-interest loan with a repayment subsidy (partial remission of the loan) depending on the energy efficiency.

KfW offers two options in the Energy Efficient Renovation promotional programme:
– renovation to become a KfW Efficiency House or
– the implementation of individual energy-related measures.

Low-interest loans and grants as well as redemption grants for the renovation of a KfW Efficiency House are key elements of this support.

The thermal insulation requirements for a KfW Efficiency House are of fundamental importance and are achieved, among other things, by installing suitable windows and doors with a low heat transfer coefficient.

Welcome to the ENERsign® U-Value window configurator:

The U-value window is also called heat transfer coefficient and according to the standard DIN EN 10077 it indicates the amount of thermal energy lost through a window to the outside.

The U-value window is calculated using the formula W/(m²K), i.e. watts per square metre and Kelvin. This value refers to the entire window and defines the amount of energy per unit of time that flows through an area of one square meter when the air temperature on both sides differs by one Kelvin. The lower this value is, the less energy or heat the window emits.
